Baden-Württemberg’s affluent neglect

Map of the Federal Republic of Germany with Baden-Württemberg in the southwest

With more than 11 million inhabitants as of 2017 across a total area of nearly 35,752 square kilometers, Baden-Württemberg is the third-largest German state of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) by both surface and population.

Located in the southwest, Baden-Württemberg consists of the historical German territories of Baden, Prussian Hohenzollern and Württemberg. It resulted from the merger of Württemberg-Baden, South Baden and Württemberg-Hohenzollern in April 1952.

These short-lived constructs had been artificially created by the victorious Allies after World War II out of the existing traditional states Baden and Württemberg by their separation over different occupation zones.

Baden-Württemberg, well known for its strong economy with various industries like car manufacturing as well as electrical and mechanical engineering, has the FRG´s third-largest gross regional product (GRP).

The accumulated wealth and the high standard of living enjoyed by its diligent people seem to be part of the growing problem that haunts the “Ländle”, as some like to refer to Baden-Württemberg.

In regional elections on March 14, 2021, 32.6% voted for the radical left-wing Alliance 90/The Greens, led by incumbent Minister-President Winfried Kretschmann (born 1948). This represents an increase of 2.3%.

Although nowadays counted among the members of the somehow conservative wing of his party, he was formerly active in the Communist League of West Germany (Kommunistischer Bund Westdeutschland, KBW), a Maoist organization which existed from 1973 until 1985.

A significant part of those who unconditionally back Alliance 90/The Greens are progressive high-income earners from liberal professions who can afford the dear consequences of the political daydreams defended by this completely redundant, if not utterly harmful outfit.

Germans are already paying the highest energy prices in the world and I have seen what that means for friends of mine during my last visit in Berlin in August 2019.

The widely popular decision of phasing out nuclear energy at all cost once and for all, using the Fukushima incident as an excuse, will made the problem even worse in the near future.

Not to speak of the effects on those companies that are the backbone of the whole region, which will lose competitiveness. These romancers seem to simply don’t care about the slow destruction of their livelihood.

Another relevant group of supporters are indoctrinated youngsters who grew up in abundance and think that the world works just like they want it to. Let’s all hold hands and everything will be fine. Best regards from/to Swedish psychopath Greta Thunberg (born 2003)!

Climate alarmism, unrestricted immigration, multiculturalism at its worst, hatred for their own nation and history, totally open borders, voting rights for all foreigners, further dismantlement of police and army, gender ideology, extreme political correctness and blatant censorship, vehement support of terrorist groups like BLM and Antifa, rapid Islamisation and Dechristianization complete this dreadful panorama, which apparently attracts more and more sated, self-hating individuals.

The reason for this very worrisome development, which merely reflects the inexorable downfall of the West, lies in affluent neglect, a malady that has become widespread in developed countries.

In an environment of desolate prosperity, doomsday prophecies which easily match those of any given sect find countless pseudo-religious believers.

I have to admit that due to bad experiences in the past, I never had particular sympathies for that part of the FRG, as even before the meteoric rise of Alliance 90/The Greens it was the personification of everything that went wrong with Germany after World War II.

The weird mixture of narrow-minded regionalism and a deep dislike of patriotism as well as a quite unhealthy fixation on money, if not plain stinginess, repelled me from the beginning.

The victory of Alliance 90/The Greens and four more years of reign by comrade Kretschmann will empty their pockets even further, though for the moment these are still abundantly filled. Savor it while it lasts!
